The 4x4 is probably one of the most highly modified vehicles because of its versatility and flexibility. Proud 4WD vehicle owners make additions like roll cages, bull bars, roof racks, and countless accessories and modifications to make their vehicle suit their needs. Among those numerous modifications, the most common is the suspension kit.

Suspension Lift Kit – What is it?

One of the most modified parts of an all-terrain vehicle is its suspension system. Its modification raises the vehicle’s overall height to gain higher ground clearance. There are many advantages of a higher clearance, especially when you participate in off-road races or drive through rough terrains.

Most kits, like the Ranger lift kit, for example, contain all the needed parts to lift a specific 4x4 model – in this case, a Ranger. Some kits only contain parts designed for a particular vehicle model and, to complete the lift, generic parts will have to be added. Other kits contain every single part required for the job, like a new suspension, driveshafts, etc.

What Can a Suspension Lift Kit Do For You?

There are many things a lift kit can do for you and your vehicle. Some of them are:

  • Provides higher ground clearance – One of the biggest advantages of a 4WD suspension lift kit is that it will increase the distance between the ground surface and your vehicle’s undercarriage. Along with upgrades to the suspension and shock, you will be able to drive worry-free over muddy trails, ruts, and rough roads.
  • Better driving experience over tough terrain – When your 4x4 is higher, it will be able to provide you with a better and more exciting off-road driving experience like climbing steep inclines or hills, across rivers, and many more. It also gives you better traction.
  • Gives you a smooth ride – Kits like the Mazda BT 50 suspension kit provide the space required to offer a more comfortable ride and even out any load as you drive to the rough ground carrying cargo.
  • Allows you to see more of the road – Due to the increased height, you get to see more of the road. This is true whether you are in urban areas, or you are driving off-road. You will be able to view obstacles.
  • Easier access to your 4wds undercarriage – Being able to have easier access to a vehicle’s undercarriage is a good thing be it just for a routine inspection or for repairs.
  • You can equip your vehicle with bigger tyres – Bigger tyres can make your all-terrain ride look more impressive and “tougher”. A 4x4 suspension lift will allow you to use bigger tyres to not only look good but also to allow for overall improved performance. Bigger tyres mean you no longer have to worry about driving through rutted roads, deep snow, or muddy areas.
  • Provides better towing ability – Each 4x4 vehicle has its towing capacity. If your vehicle has a lower capacity, the backend of the vehicle when towing heavy loads like a big trainer. It will negatively affect your 4x4’s performance and cause premature wear on the rear tyres. The majority of motorhomes, trailers, and caravans will be too heavy unless you have an airbag suspension kit.

If you own an all-terrain vehicle and you routinely go off-road or enjoy participating in off-road activities, you will benefit greatly from a lift kit.
